Hi everyone!
My names Sid, and on this blog I plan to review albums that are Hip-Hop/R&B/Anti-Pop/what ever the fuck people want me to review!
I look as good as your dad on a Friday — Jeffery Lamar Williams
I want to start out by saying by no means am I an expert. Quite the opposite, I know very little compared to hip-hop fans older than me. I only became interested in hip-hop at 15 (I’m now 18), and so while I have gone back to listen to the older albums of my favourite artists (like the Kanye’s and the Kendrick’s) there’s still so much more I need to listen to. That’s where this blog comes in. Up until now, I haven’t truly explored the older artists that came before my time (Biggie, 2Pac, Nas, etc.) and so I wanted to make that journey and take you guys along with me. Additionally, I wanted to be able to take recommendations from you guys so that you could guide me in the direction of what albums are considered as classics, and so help to form my thus far poorly-developed music knowledge.
Having said that, although I’m very behind on music that came before my time, I consider myself fairly clued up when it comes to music that’s been released since I became a hip-hop fan, particularly in the last two years. So this journey can hopefully be split into two parts: you guys introducing me to those I’ve slept on; and hopefully with my reviews me opening you lot up to artists or albums that you previously hadn’t heard of or considered!
I kind of want to start writing, but obviously I haven’t got any recommendations and I don’t really want to be waiting for specific albums to come out and instead work at my own pace. Because of this, I plan to write reviews on my favourite album from each month of the year this calendar year, and hopefully release them sequentially so that the final one is released in time for New Year. I might do a favourite artists post as well, I’m not quite sure yet.
Now I’m aware that I’m more or less addressing myself at the moment because there is literally no one who reads this (lol) and I’d rather do this anonymously at the moment right now, meaning I’m relying entirely on internet promotion. However, for me I’ve always wanted to challenge myself in writing about something I’m passionate about which is music. To me this is currently more therapeutic than anything if I’m very honest, but if you are someone reading this right now I’m very grateful to have you here and I’d love for you to stick around!
See you guys on the next post!
Love, Sid
